Looks like the American bishops are taking it much better than a certain Italian bishop.

BillyHW

Ooops, wrong thread. Sorry.

Mary

Awesome! Good on the state of Missouri and MO Right-to-Life for their good work on this no-nonsense legislation, which has set the bar for similar bills in other states.

Here's the URL for the summary and text of the final version of the bill.

Whaddya know. Finally, someone's told PP that if they have to begin to be truthful. If you claim to be a medical facility, follow the rules. Of course, that means consequences for such things as not reporting underage abuse.

Allena Jackson

I am PROUD to live in Missouri. Now I can rethink that move I was planning to South Dakota. Matt Blunt has been a great Gov, I hope he can stick around. He's done lots of cool stuff in many areas for the state.

Foxfier

YES!

Not perfect, but a good start!

Jordan Potter

You gotta love it -- the pro-abortion crowd keeps insisting that abortion is health care. Looks like the baby killers have outsmarted themselves.

This is especially good news after that disaster last year where the destroyers of embryonic human beings got Missouri's constitution amended to force tax dollars to be used for shredding microscopic humans.

Monica

great news! I'm trying to picture him signing a 'pill' though, and am having a hard time...

Jimmy Akin

Oops. Problem fixed. :-)

Fr Bill P

I love my state. There has been an ongoing battle with PP for years in this state which has exposed the duplicity of PP for even the most vitrolic pro-abortionist. Wanna count how many days before the pro-abortionists do what they always do...take it to court?

David

Good start. If anything is going to change, I think it is going to have to be at the state and local levels. Lets start seeing these things ( "abortion clinics" ) for what they are.

Peter

Is South Dakota abortion free? I want a t-shirt that says "SOUTH DAKOTA: THE ABORTION-FREE STATE".

JoAnna

Yay! Good for Gov. Blunt - he was spot on. It seems like PP is saying that they shouldn't have to follow medical regulations when doing a medical procedure. So if you're killing babies, you should be above the law? Huh?

Chris-2-4

Planned Parenthood:

"We firmly believe abortion should be Safe, Legal and Rare. Okay, maybe not rare, since we're in it for the money and safe isn't that big a deal if it costs too much money either. But definitely LEGAL. One out of three ain't bad!"

whitestonenameseeker

Brilliant. This is good news indeed. PP surely shot themselves in the foot by complaining about the cost to bring things up to standard. Are they so dim they can't see that is saying their standards are pretty poor?

mallys

Unfortunately, South Dakota is not abortion-free -- yet. We tried: our legislature overwhelmingly, and in a bipartisan manner, passed the most restrictive abortion laws yet proposed. Planned Parenthood instituted the oxymoronically named Coalition for Healthy Families to fight the ban and get it put on the ballot as a ballot iniative. By hammering the "exceptions" not being made, the ballot lost narrowly. Polls after voting indicated that the "exceptions" would have passed it. The legislators let it rest this session, but it will probably come to the legislature again in light of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban being affirmed in the USSC. The legislators that were against the ban lost in the election and those for it won, even in districts where Democrats were challenged for their support of the ban. PP is now trying to discredit one of the main sponsors of the bill over fund raising.

Mrs Paula Gianino down to only one clinic, well that will make it a heck of a lot easier to gather for prayer during the 40 days for life event this fall!

DanielTA

Great news!

I wish my state just west of Missouri would make as much progress...
I love Kansas, but we're sure messed up over here.

PBXVI

You know, Missouri is my favorite state!!!

Ed Peters

Missouri. We took pro-life for granted growing up there.

David B.

Ed,

You are from Missouri!?! Wicked cool!
